Well, I definitely need to continue my cruise posting, just so I have a record of it, but lately I just haven't felt like it. Work is taking a lot out of me, as we are so behind and understaffed. I've put in for two positions, and I'm waiting to hear back on either of them.

In other news, I'm trying my hand at some more costuming. There is a Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince party being thrown this weekend, and I'm trying to finish my costume before then. I will post pics if it comes out well.

I know this was a short little post, but this was just mainly to show that I'm still alive; I just haven't felt like posting.

Vacation Part 1: Getting to the boat

So we did it. Blackie and I took a cruise. We booked a cruise for the Western Caribbean on the Carnival Valor. We also happened to book it during hurricane season... but hey, it was cheaper and we didn't see any hurricanes.

Now, because our cruise left at 4 pm on Sunday and we live 10 hours away from Miami, we decided to head down a day early and just spend the night in Orlando, FL, making it an easy 3 hours the next day. So we booked the Days Inn in Orlando because we had stayed there the previous year and liked the location and the hotel. So we pack up and head towards Orlando. The trip itself wasn't too bad, except for the Semi that was following us for a long time. And it apparently only liked going one speed... even when the rest of us were slowing down. And the semi stayed right behind us too. It almost rear-ended us a few times and got close to tagging my bumper once. Blackie stated that it reminded him of an older movie that this Semi follows a guy around, it was pretty creepy.

So anyways, we get to Orlando and arrive at the hotel. Well, that's when we find out that Blackie booked the wrong hotel. He booked the sketchy Days Inn that had 4 other people there and wasn't in the best neighborhood. The elevator was moldy (and had just past an inspection apparently) and the whole place needed a renovation. I decided that we had to get out. So we went to Arabian Nights, an Arabian horse show with dinner, it was great. It also had bottomless watered down beer and wine. Our waiter didn't quite believe that we were 21, but when we offered to show our IDs, he declined... oh well. So that was the excitement of Day 1 of the vacation.

The next day we get up to see the wonderful continental breakfast of the hotel that consisted of juice, English muffins and cereal... so we went to Denny's. There I saw the best advertising gimmick. There is a sign for this sizzler breakfast with a button to push to hear the "sizzle"... it was hilarious... and yeah, we totally order the sizzler. It was yummy. After Denny's we headed out to get on the Turnpike. Well, there was the turn off that we got off on originally. We were in the wrong lane for that, but my map of Orlando showed that there appeared to be another ramp a little later. Well, at some point we figured we have gone too far. We weren't sure how long it had been, but we were only supposed to go 2 miles to meet up to the Turnpike. Both Blackie and I agreed that we didn't see any bridges on the way. So we go a little further till all of the buildings disappear and we decide to turn around. We ended up going like 7 miles out... and when we got back to the bridge that both of us missed, there was no on ramp. So we had to go back to the original turn that we missed. :p The only other thing of note was while we were approaching Miami, we saw a hawk carrying a fish almost as big as he was, flying next to the highway.

We finally got to Miami and found the parking deck and got on the boat... we were on level 7 of the boat, which wasn't too bad. Well, I will stop here for this post... wow, this post ended up being longer than I thought. Oh well, next post will be the first day on the ship.

New Bloggy Thingy

So I'm going to try to use this blog thing as sort of a diary and a sketch diary. I'll be participating in an animal of the week drawing challenge, so I'll post those as I go. I'll also post here if something interesting happens in my life.

So let's start with a description of me. I'm currently 23 years old and I live in Macon, Ga. I work as a claims adjuster. I like reading, drawing and just tooling around on my computer. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and want to eventually pursue grad school in either animal behavior or zoology. I recently went on vacation on a cruise, which I will post about in my next blog. Post if you have any questions.
